More artsy photo goes here. Maybe something that reinforces the nutrition and dietician bullet point. BJ will send something for this and for the full-size photo below.

The Older Americans Act

The Older Americans Act (OAA). established in 1965, is our primary vehicle for the organization and delivery of social and nutritional services to seniors and caregivers in our service area. Similar programs operate throughout the United States.

DOCServices provides these services to individuals age 60 and older who reside in Delaware, Ottawa, and Craig counties:

  • Congregate Meal Sites
  • Home-Delivered Meals
  • Homemaker Services
  • Transportation
  • Outreach
  • Nutrition Education and Counseling by a registered dietician.

Serving many of the needs of the elderly in Ottawa, Delaware and Criag County

Congregate Meal Sites

Our congregate meal sites are strategically located throughout our service area, making gathering for fun and food easier. Each site offers daily activities, including arts and crafts, health screenings, and time with friends. And, of course, nutritious and delicious food! Note that lunch is offered that meets ⅓ of the daily recommended intake (DRI) for seniors.

  • Grove Senior Center
  • Afton Senior Center
  • Burroughs Manor, located in Vinita

OAA Scope of Services

Home-delivered Meals
Qualifying seniors can receive home-delivered meals. The first qualification is that you cannot get out of your home to the congregate locations. A state assessment is required, which is conducted by our outreach worker, to know if you meet the minimum requirements.

These meals are available on a limited basis and we do have a waiting list. The meal is the same as provided at the congregate site each day.

Homemaker Services
Seniors with health or mobility issues can easily struggle to maintain their homes, making basic chores and housekeeping services just another way we can help seniors live happy and healthy lives at home. We offer homemaker services in all three counties but only on a limited basis due to availability. This service is for those who cannot help themselves and primarily for those who live alone due to limited funding.

Transportation
Seniors in the city limits of Miami, Grove, and Vinita are eligible for transportation services for medical visits such as appointments and to our congregate meal locations. Please contact us to learn more about using this program.

Nutritional Education
Our registered dietician provides nutritional information monthly for both the congregate and home-delivered meals; she visits each site monthly and speaks with any member that wishes to have nutritional counseling and is available via phone to any home-bound client.

Outreach
Have a need but not sure where to find help? Our outreach worker consults with and advises clients on how to find services that are available to help them in the area where they live. She offers information and assistance that older people need and cannot find.
